Tracking

November 23, 2007

Using Adobe After FX I tracked the movement of the skateboard using coloured trails which I layered up. The effect looks a bit like paint dripping down the ramp.

Change of plan

November 18, 2007

After my first one on one meeting with Mike Punt I have decided to change my idea. Staying with the idea of technology and education I am going to look at how mobile phones are having a negative effect on learning in the classroom by causing a distraction. I am going to look at how the costs of this technology could possibly be turned into benefits. I want research past attempts to resolve this problem. I also want to examine the way disruptive and non-disruptive mobile phones are managed in places such as hospitals and cinemas, exploring how they could possibly be integrated positively into these environments.

Footage

November 11, 2007

Here is some of the footage caught, I will use this to track the movement of the skateboard.

Board

November 10, 2007

I got some red tap and stuck it around the edges of the board. This way I can use Adobe After Effects to pick out the colour and trace the movement of the board on the ramp:

Location

I have decided to film a ramp at central park skatepark:

Next Step

November 2, 2007

I plan to track the motion of a skateboard by attaching coloured tape to the edge and filming the motions. I will then use final cut pro to extract the movement of the tape. Using the data collected I hope to layer up a profile of the paths of the board over the obstacle.

Skateboarding, Space and the City

November 1, 2007

After a meeting with Shaun I have started reading Skateboarding, Space and the City by Iain Borden as it links to my project. It looks at the history of the sport and how skateboarders experience and understand the city.
