Change of plan

November 18, 2007

After my first one on one meeting with Mike Punt I have decided to change my idea. Staying with the idea of technology and education I am going to look at how mobile phones are having a negative effect on learning in the classroom by causing a distraction. I am going to look at how the costs of this technology could possibly be turned into benefits. I want research past attempts to resolve this problem. I also want to examine the way disruptive and non-disruptive mobile phones are managed in places such as hospitals and cinemas, exploring how they could possibly be integrated positively into these environments.

Dissertation Proposal

October 15, 2007

For my dissertation I plan to research and write about technology and education. Focusing mainly on secondary school education and the increasing amount of technology found in the classrooms such as data projectors and interactive white boards. I also want to research into e learning and virtual learning environments, which are designed to enhance students learning experience and moving away from traditional textbooks.

Having worked in a school during my placement I could see how the organisation was moving from paper to electronic. I built the schools website which I designed to allow teachers to update it with learning materials as opposed to handing out paper based work. There was also a system being developed which tracked the student’s progress so that their parents can see when they achieve good marks or been given a detention for bad behaviour. This way of logging the students progress interested me as I would like to know if it effects their behaviour.
